Since then, he has applied the philosophy of deepening the diagnosis of the causes of epilepsy and establishing the most appropriate treatment for each patient.<\/p><p>Following this methodology, he has pioneered the <strong>diagnosis of epilepsy<\/strong> using video-EEG monitoring, high-definition imaging techniques, and genetic and metabolic studies.<\/p><p>In Spain, it is one of the <strong>most active centers in epilepsy surgery<\/strong>, an area in which it has excelled in the development of novel techniques, such as <strong>stereo-electroencephalography (deep electrodes)<\/strong>, surgery in patients with normal MRI, and gamma-knife radiosurgery.<\/p><p>These techniques have made it possible to successfully apply <strong>surgical treatment in adults and children<\/strong> who had previously been considered unsuitable for surgery. For this reason, it has become a <strong>reference center<\/strong>, to which patients are referred from all over Spain, as well as from other countries, mainly Latin America and North Africa.<\/p><p>The Epilepsy Program is actively involved in <strong>research projects<\/strong>, focusing especially on the diagnosis and treatment of difficult-to-control epilepsy (refractory epilepsy). Some of these projects have already provided <strong>relevant information<\/strong> on the interpretation of symptoms and electroencephalogram during seizures, the use of magnetoencephalography (MEG), and genetic and metabolic studies in epilepsy.<\/p><p>In other cases, research has led to the <strong>development of new drugs<\/strong> or modifications in surgical approaches. Research is usually carried out<strong> in collaboration with other international and Spanish centers<\/strong>, which allows us to gain early access to new knowledge and transfer it to our
