This condition is considered one of the most painful headaches and affects mainly men, although it can also occur in women. <\/p><p>During an episode of cluster headache, the individual experiences severe, unilateral pain around the orbit, temple and\/or forehead. The most accepted theory holds that there is an activation of the hypothalamus and the trigemino-autonomic reflex. The hypothalamus is a structure that regulates sleep and wake cycles, hunger and thirst sensations, and mood states. This is why cluster headache patients often have pain crises during nighttime rest. The ingestion of alcoholic beverages, especially during cluster periods, can trigger the onset of the acute and severe headaches characteristic of this condition. <\/li><li><strong>Stress:<\/strong> Stress has been identified as a triggering factor that may contribute to the onset of pain crises. This pain is typically located on one side of the head, around the orbit, temples and forehead. The intensity of the pain is often described as &#8220;shooting&#8221; or &#8220;burning&#8221;.  <\/li><\/ul><ul><li><strong>Duration of Episodes:<\/strong> Episodes of cluster headache are usually of short duration but extremely intense. They can last from 15 minutes to three hours, and often occur several times a day, predominantly at night, for periods that can extend from weeks to months. <\/li><li><strong>Tearing and Nasal Congestion:<\/strong> Many people who experience cluster headache have additional symptoms in the eye and nose on the affected side. This may include tearing, redness of the eye and nasal congestion. <\/li><li><strong>Restlessness and Agitation:<\/strong> During a cluster headache episode, some people may feel restless or agitated. They may have difficulty finding a comfortable position and may experience the need to move constantly. This characteristic differentiates it from migraine, in which patients usually improve with rest.  <\/li><li><strong>Frequency of episodes:<\/strong> There are two types of cluster headache based on the frequency of episodes. The episodic form is one in which episodes of pain occur in cycles or &#8220;clusters&#8221;, followed by periods of remission in which the symptoms disappear completely. When there are no periods of remission or these last less than 3 months, we call it chronic cluster headache.    <\/li><li><strong>Sensitivity to Light and Sound:<\/strong> During cluster headache episodes, some people may become sensitive to light and sound.
