This means that it <strong>is maternally transmitted<\/strong> and <strong>affects sons<\/strong>. Female carriers have mild symptoms or remain asymptomatic.  <\/p><p><strong>Symptoms<\/strong> usually begin in<strong> childhood<\/strong> and consist of <strong>progressive weakness in the extremities<\/strong>.<\/p><p>Current <strong>treatment<\/strong> focuses on <strong>rehabilitation<\/strong> and <strong>symptomatic<\/strong> <strong>measures<\/strong>.
