Adapted domicile<\/h2>

Within our team of the Neuro-rehabilitation Unit<\/a> we are fortunate to have a wonderful occupational therapist specialized in the management of patients with neurological pathologies, Mar\u00eda de los \u00c1ngeles Alonso Santos<\/a> has been part of the Neurology Service of the Ruber Internacional Hospital<\/a> since 2012 <\/span>. <\/p>

Why an adapted home?<\/h6>

When a person has a pathology that affects their ability to perform daily living activities<\/strong> in the way they were doing them, it is essential that the occupational therapist performs a home evaluation<\/strong>to assess the accessibility of the home; identifying architectural barriers, risk elements that may promote falls, as well as the optimization of existing spaces; turning the adapted home into a functional and safe space.<\/p>

This change in needs can appear either suddenly, after suffering a stroke or a CT scan, or be the result of a neurodegenerative pathology such as PD, MS, dementia, etc., in which case we must anticipate future needs by adapting the environment to promote the patient’s independence or, failing that, his or her assistance, accompanying the evolution of the disease.<\/p>

In most cases it is not necessary to carry out major works or spend a large amount of money<\/strong>; it is enough to optimize existing resources and complete with certain elements that favor the autonomy of the user and ensure their safety and quality of life.<\/p>
