Our goal is to <strong>improve the independence<\/strong> of those people who, as a result of a neurological disease, have difficulty in performing the following tasks: <\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Basic activities of daily living<\/strong>, which, as their name suggests, are those essential for living (feeding, dressing, grooming).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div id=\"attachment_9514\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-9514 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/neurologiaclinica.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/cubiertos_especiales_CR0050_ortopedia_sabadell_BIAS-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Cutlery adapted for food\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cutlery adapted for food<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong>Instrumental activities of daily living<\/strong>, which are those aimed at improving the person&#8217;s ability to live self-sufficiently in his or her usual environment (control of medication intake, computer use, driving).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Ball mouse for people with reduced mobility.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><strong>Advanced activities of daily living<\/strong>, which although not indispensable for life, are related to the way of living it (e.g., leisure activities, participation in groups, travel).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div id=\"attachment_9515\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-9515 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/neurologiaclinica.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/SILLA-ADAPTADA-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"ADAPTED CHAIR\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Wheelchair adapted for sports.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>To achieve this goal during our therapy we carry out various <strong>activities<\/strong> aimed at<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Encourage motivation.<\/li>\n<li>Acquire the Activities of Daily Living.<\/li>\n<li>Improve joint movement, strength and motor skills of the extremities.<\/li>\n<li>Prevent and reduce impairment and functional limitations.<\/li>\n<li>Encourage the development of social skills.<\/li>\n<li>Enable the use of support products.<\/li>\n<li>Eliminate architectural barriers and adapt the environment.<\/li>\n<li>To favor access to the labor market.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Neurological diseases<\/strong> that can lead to decreased autonomy include :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Acquired brain damage (stroke, traumatic brain injury, tumors and infections of the nervous system).<\/li>\n<li>Neurodegenerative diseases (Parkinson&#8217;s disease, parkinsonisms, dementias)<\/li>\n<li>Spinal cord injuries<\/li>\n<li>Neuromuscular diseases (Guillain-Barre Syndrome, radiculopathies, muscle diseases)<\/li>\n<li>Infantile cerebral palsy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>To achieve <strong>optimal results<\/strong>, the occupational therapist first performs<strong> relaxation and\/or stimulation exercises<\/strong> and then others aimed at facilitating the performance of the activities of daily living mentioned above.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Fine motor skills exercises<\/strong> (e.g., stringing balls on a string by pinching with all fingers, placing pieces of different sizes on a perforated plate).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Coordination exercises<\/strong> (e.g., take coins until the hand is full and release them one at a time by pushing with the thumb).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Joint mobility exercises<\/strong> (e.g., performing a tower of cubes).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sensory stimulation exercises<\/strong> (e.g., putting your hand in a sandbox, looking for and recognizing objects with your eyes closed).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>In conclusion, the objective of Occupational Therapy is to prevent or correct the person&#8217;s disability through occupation and through various activities.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>[toggle_item title=&#8221;&#8221;AUTHOR&#8221;&#8221;
