The mother, who has Parkinson’s disease, is a brave captain who throughout the story, among envious rivals and treasure maps, will show some of the symptoms of her illness.

The objective of the authors is to approach this disease and facilitate the understanding of this ailment but from entertainment and education. For all those who have a family member or close person who suffers from this disease, this book is a tool for the children around them. It can also serve to raise awareness, to the next generations, about this disease that affects so many people. At the end of the story there are several questions about the content, thus encouraging the little ones to deepen the meaning of the story.

According to the authors:

“When a disease like Parkinson’s comes along, it becomes part of the reality that surrounds all family members. In general, children don’t need much explanation and accept it naturally. However, sometimes we adults would like to tell them more or know if they have questions that do not arise in everyday life. We hope that this story is, above all, very entertaining and, if appropriate, opens the door to a dialogue about Parkinson’s disease with the little ones in the family.Attack!”

The book, endorsed by the Spanish Society of Neurology and the Brain Foundation, allocates its profits to the Solidarity Fund of the Parkinson Madrid Association for the rehabilitation of people with lower economic resources.

It can be purchased at the Centro Integral Parkinson Madrid Retiro, at Calle Poeta Esteban Villegas 12, or at AMAZON.

The Dr. Monica KurtisDirector of the Movement Disorders Program, and the illustrator Arantxa Albert present: “The hidden treasure of Park & Son”, a short story aimed at children that aims, through an illustrated adventure, to explain to the little ones what Parkinson’s disease is all about.
