During this summer the “ice bucket challenge<\/strong>” phenomenon has gone viral and we have seen all kinds of people receiving buckets of ice water for a good cause: the fight for research into amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).<\/strong> This campaign seeks to publicize and raise awareness<\/strong> about a degenerative disease that today affects millions of people in the world. <\/p>\n

Origin of the phenomenon:<\/h4>\n

The origin<\/strong> of this phenomenon is a former college baseball player named diagnosed from two years ago. On August 7, 200 people gathered to raise awareness of the disease by pouring a bucket of ice water over their heads. Since then, thousands of people around the world have followed suit, raising nearly 40 million euros for associations affected by the disease. <\/p>\n

Many celebrities have joined this movement by throwing a bucket of ice water and nominating other people to make a donation and continue the chain.<\/p>\n

What is the ICE BUCKET CHALLENGE?<\/em> challenge ?<\/em><\/strong><\/h4>\n

The campaign consists of a person throwing a bucket of ice water on himself, uploading the video to social networks and donating<\/strong> ten euros for research into Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (<\/strong>ALS )<\/strong>, a neurodegenerative disease with a fatal prognosis that affects 2,800 people in Spain.<\/strong> Then you must challenge three people to perform the same action. If they meet the challenge, they will donate another ten euros and if they do not do so within 24
\nhours, the donation increases to 100 euros. <\/p>\n

What is really important is to raise public awareness<\/strong> and help in the form of donations to promote research<\/strong> into this disease. In Spain there are several channels for raising funds through associations of patients and relatives suffering from the disease. Although in our country the success of the campaign has been similar to that of others when it comes to throwing the bucket of ice water and uploading the video<\/strong> to social networks, but not in terms of donations. <\/p>\n
