The Spanish Society of Neurology (SEN) organizes a meeting every year. As has become customary in recent years, it was held in Seville. From November 15 to 19, a large number of neurologists participated in lectures and workshops. At these meetings they update and share experiences. Every year many of the neurologists of our team participate actively.
Dr. Jesús Esteban, attending neurologist of the Clinical Neurology Unitspecialized in neuromuscular diseases, is one of the neurologists who took part in the presentation Characterization of SOD1 mutations in Spain. The impact of genotype, age and sex on the natural history of the disease.
Our Movement Disorders Unit, directed by the Dr. Monica Kurtisalways has an important presence in this annual event, participating in several talks and communications. As well as our Functional Movement Disorders Unit, a pioneering unit in Spain, directed by the Dr. Isabel Parees.

Another of our most active units in research, and one that is never absent from the specialist meetings, is the Epilepsy Unit directed by Dr. Antonio Gil-Nagel, with Dr. A. Aledo, Dr. A. Beltrán, Dr. I. García Morales and Dr. R. Toledano as adjuncts, has had an important presence:
- Cannabinoids in Neurology.
- Other childhood-onset epileptic syndromes and their evolution in adulthood: metabolic diseases, tuberous sclerosis, Rett syndrome, Angelman.
- D-galactose as a precision treatment in patients with MOGHE: pilot trial as proof of concept.
- Deep phenotyping of NALCN/UNC80-related syndromes.
- Cenobamate as a special situation medication in super-refractory patients with no other therapeutic alternatives.
- The central nervous system immunologic adverse immune effects of immune checkpoint inhibitors are not associated with an increase in serum proinflammatory cytokines.
From the Sleep Unit, we have counted with the Dr. Laura Lillo who collaborated in the presentation of: Autoimmune hypophysitis due to checkpoint inhibitor: a case report and, Stroke Unit and specialized Neurology on-call: First year of experience in a secondary hospital in Madrid. Also attached to this Unit is the Dr. Milagros MerinoHead rolling documented case: an example of the effectiveness of melatonin as a first line therapy.
Dr. Alejandro Horga, a neurologist specialized in neuromuscular diseases, has had a very important presence at the last meeting of the Spanish Society of Neurology:
- Presentation of a patient with chorea and dementia associated with CANVAS syndrome.
- Genetic study of CANVAS in patients with cryptogenic sensory neuropathy.
- Immune-mediated necrotizing myopathy associated with anti-HMGCR antibodies. Diagnosis, treatment and evolution of a case.
- Evaluation and follow-up of sudomotor function in a cohort of patients with ATTRv from a non-endemic area.
- Predictors of response to Tafamidis in a cohort of patients with ATTRv from a non-endemic area.
We are very proud of all the specialists who work with us and their contribution to these annual meetings. In addition to their work in consultation, diagnosis and treatment, many of them dedicate their time to research, collaboration with other national and international specialists and publications in specialized media.
