Child Neurology Unit

We evaluate pediatric patients, from newborns (neonates), through infants, preschoolers and school children up to adolescence, with neurological disorders.

What pathologies do child neurologists treat in a Child Neurology Unit?

• Headaches: Headaches, migraines.
• Developmental neurology: psychomotor retardation, learning disorders, language disorders, attention deficit and hyperactivity disorders, autism spectrum disorders, Asperger’s, sleep disorders.
• Neonatal neurology: hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, intracranial hemorrhages, metabolic disorders, neonatal neuromuscular diseases.
• Motor disorders: Infantile cerebral palsy, movement disorders.
• Paroxysmal non-epileptic disorders: syncope, tics, sobbing spasms.
• Neuromuscular diseases.

Pediatric consultation:

The study of each patient in the consultation includes a detailed clinical history and complete neurological examination:

• The information obtained in this first contact may allow us to make a more precise diagnosis and, if necessary, to decide on the appropriate treatment.
• Other times, a diagnostic plan including diagnostic tests will be necessary. These studies are usually performed in the shortest possible time and usually on an outpatient basis.

The Secretary of our Service coordinates these studies and consultations, adapting them as much as possible to the needs of the patient and his family.

We have special experience in the study ofdifficult to diagnose cases (Second Neurological Opinions), being a national and international reference.
