Psychiatry Unit

The Psychiatry Unit was launched in 2014 with the idea of offering a professional evaluation of the emotional variables and psychopathological alterations that accompany, facilitate or complexify the different somatic problems seen at the Ruber Internacional Hospital.

It was born integrated in the Neurology Service with the spirit of offering optimal care in specialized programs that require multi-professional and coordinated care. Since then, it has worked in liaison psychiatry with several specialties: Internal Medicine, Gynecology, Neurosurgery and Oncology.

The Psychiatry Unit has actively participated in the evaluation, treatment plans and coordinated work with patients treated in other programs:

• Functional Movement Disorders Unit
• Epilepsy Unit
• Diagnosis and Treatment of Cognitive Impairment
• Evaluation of the clinical indication for radiosurgery in Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

Throughout my professional life, and especially in the work of these years, close contact and coordinated work with other professionals has enriched my knowledge and sharpened my clinical intuition to identify and alleviate the causes of psychic suffering.

At all times, care has been taken to ensure good coordination with the different professionals attending the patient, as well as to advise on the best management of the care resources required for clinical improvement.

We have a Program for PAS (High Sensitivity) and/or PAC (High Ability) Patients. This program is a pioneer in Spain, uniting the multidisciplinary work of several members of our team, being able to offer individualized treatments and diagnoses.

We also provide general psychiatric consultations and support for pharmacological prescriptions for patients who are involved in a psychotherapeutic process both with our team and other professionals.

The evaluation of the evolution of the psychotherapeutic work allows adjusting the pharmacological treatment, minimizing side effects and increasing the efficacy of the intervention.
