Twenty-nine years ago a study was published indicating the benefit of treatment with high-dose intravenous methylprednisolone in patients with acute spinal cord injury [1]. This has been the therapeutic attitude we have maintained for years. Since then, studies with conflicting data on the efficacy of this treatment had been published.

In Neurology Liu et al [2] publish the result of a meta-analysis in which the results indicate that the use of intravenous methylprednisolone at high doses does not contribute to a better recovery and may cause complications (respiratory infection, gastrointestinal bleeding).
