Amyloid angiopathy

Amyloid angiopathy is a neurological disease that results in the deposition of a substance known as amyloid in the cerebral arteries.
This usually leads to cognitive impairment (dementia) and secondary cerebral hemorrhages due to the fragility of the vessels caused by this deposition.
It affects elderly people. In fact, 15% of intracerebral hemorrhages occur in patients over 60 years of age.
Although a brain biopsy would be necessary to make a diagnosis of certainty, a reliable diagnosis is usually made by clinical data and imaging studies (CT or MRI).
