Anterior optic neuritis or papillitis is the inflammation of the papilla (optic nerve head).

It is a form of optic neuritis in which the most anterior part is affected and papillary edema may be evidenced.

The differential diagnosis is broad, including causes of optic neuropathy with papillary edema.
