Cerebral astrocytoma

Astrocytoma of the brain is a tumor derived from a type of brain cell called an astrocyte. It is included within the tumors called gliomas.
Depending on the degree of malignancy, they are differentiated into low-grade astrocytomas (grades I and II), anaplastic astrocytomas (grade III) and glioblastoma multiforme (grade IV).
Low-grade tumors are typical of childhood and are usually located in the cerebellum or brain stem, while high-grade tumors are typical of adults and are usually located in the cerebral hemispheres.
