Dysarthria

Dysarthria is the alteration of speech articulation. It is an alteration secondary to a lesion of the central nervous system (brain) or peripheral nervous system (cranial nerves and muscles).

The patient with dysarthria has difficulty pronouncing words, but unlike the aphasic, he/she is able to read, write and understand what he/she hears. Rehabilitation of this type of disorder is performed by speech therapists.
