Fever crisis or absence

Any alteration or disease that injures, destroys or alters the functioning of neurons in the cerebral cortex can cause seizures.

In many cases this alteration is a transitory problem that causes one or a few isolated crises and is corrected with treatment.

This is the case, for example, with febrile seizures and seizures provoked by certain medications or drugs.

In these cases it is not considered to be epilepsy, but “provoked seizures”.

In most cases, it is not recommended to start antiepileptic treatment, but rather to avoid the cause of the seizure.
