It is a non-hereditary degenerative disease, classified within the atypical parkinsonisms, characterized by a combination of various symptoms:

  1. Autonomic and urinary dysfunction: orthostatic hypotension (decrease of 20mmHg in systolic or 10mmHg in diastolic), urinary incontinence or incomplete bladder emptying, erectile dysfunction in men.
  2. Symptoms similar to Parkinson’s disease: rigidity, bradykinesia (progressive reduction of the speed and amplitude of voluntary movements during repetitive actions), postural instability, tremor.
  3. Cerebellar alteration: gait or limb ataxia, ataxic dysarthria, nystagmus.
