Optic neuritis is inflammation of the optic nerve that can cause vision loss in the affected eye.

The clinical manifestations are progressive loss of vision within hours or a few days, altered color vision, altered pupillary reactivity to light and pain on eye movement.

Although optic neuritis can be caused by different infectious, systemic and autoimmune diseases. The most common form of the disease is acute demyelinating optic neuritis. Acute demyelinating optic neuritis is known to be associated with sclerosis.
