The Neurology Service of the Ruber International Hospital now offers neuropsychological care in French neuropsychology in French

Since last April, the Neurology Service of the Ruber International Hospital has been offering neuropsychological care in French, thus satisfying the demand of those patients who prefer to receive medical care in their mother tongue and improving the assistance provided to them.

Madrid is home to a large French community, made up of families, professionals and students who have chosen our city as their home. For many of them, being able to communicate in their native language during medical care is crucial because it not only facilitates the understanding of diagnoses and treatments, but also provides a more comfortable and familiar environment.

Until now, the Neurology Service of the Ruber International Hospital offered care in Spanish and English. However, with the addition of French as a language of care, the hospital expands its range of services and, in turn, strengthens its international visibility, attracting patients seeking a medical environment that understands their linguistic and cultural needs.

“Through this service, we can evaluate and treat neuropsychological and psychological disorders in children, adults and the elderly. In addition, in the Neurology Service, we work as a team, so language does not represent a barrier to receiving appropriate multidisciplinary treatment. This not only ensures high quality care, but also provides patients with a more comfortable and familiar environment, improving their experience and outcomes in the care process,” explains Maëlle Laval, Neurology Service neuropsychologist.

A comprehensive, multidisciplinary neuropsychology service in French

The new service in French enables the evaluation and treatment of neuropsychological and psychological disorders in patients of all ages, from children to the elderly. This is
especially relevant in cases of neurodegeneration such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, as well as neurodevelopmental disorders such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

Many of the neuropsychological tests are designed taking into account the language and educational level of the patient, which makes assessment in the native language essential to obtain accurate results. In addition, during neurostimulation, the use of
native language facilitates reconnection with memories and emotions, fundamental aspects for
the success of the treatment.

So far, seven patients with neurodegenerative diseases and neurodevelopmental disorders have already requested care in French. The experience of these patients underlines the importance of receiving care in a familiar linguistic and cultural environment, which not only improves the quality of care, but also positively influences therapeutic outcomes.

Also, starting in September, the Ruber Internacional Hospital will collaborate with the Parents’ Association of the Lycée Français to attend children and parents from different French schools in Madrid.
