VI Course on Neuro-Ophthalmologic Exploration: a cutting-edge training course for neurologists, neurosurgeons and ophthalmologists.

(Madrid. Lucila Rodríguez)

The Neurology Department of the Ruber Internacional Hospital in Madrid will hold on September 20,
the VI edition of the Neuro-Ophthalmological Exploration Course in which, under the direction of doctors Oriol Franch and Alberto Gálvez, neurologists, neurosurgeons and ophthalmologists will receive theoretical and practical training, 100% face-to-face, on neuro-ophthalmological evaluation.

The course is structured in theoretical and practical sessions (workshops), lasting between 30 and 45 minutes, and includes the participation of a panel of neurologists and ophthalmologists with proven experience in neuro-ophthalmology such as Dr. José María Losada, Hospital de Cruces, Bilbao; Dr. Silvia Muñoz, Hospital de Bellvitge, Barcelona; Dr. Carles Roig, Hospital Santa Creu i Sant Pau, Barcelona; and Dr. Bernardo Sánchez Dalmau, Hospital Clinic, Barcelona.

All of them, together with Dr. Franch and Dr. Gálvez, will address various aspects related to neuro-ophthalmology, ranging from the evaluation of the shape, general appearance, position, measurements and fatigue of the eyelids; to the use of the Snellen chart and Ishihara films to analyze visual acuity and color vision; to the study of pupil size, shape, light reflexes and convergence, as well as testing of eye drops for pupils.

Other topics that will be addressed during the course are confrontation campimetry and Amsler grid to analyze visual fields; direct ophthalmoscopy (pupillary dilation, optic disc, macula, retina and vessels); and ocular motility, where aspects related to the assessment of ocular misalignment, fast and slow eye movements, and ocular oscillations will be discussed.

Thanks to all this training, upon completion of the course participants should be able to perform a complete neuro- ophthalmologic examination, including afferent, pupillary, efferent, vestibular and encephalic components. This skill is crucial for the diagnosis and effective treatment of various neuro-
ophthalmologic conditions.
