The Video EEG Monitoring Course is taking place during October 22nd and 23rd at the Ruber Internacional Hospital, the Fifth Edition of the Video EEG Monitoring Course organized by our Epilepsy Program Team. This course, given the current circumstances, and in order to reach the maximum number of specialists (neurologists, neurophysiologists and neuropediatricians) has been organized for the second consecutive time, and given the current circumstances, in online format. Aimed at those interested in epilepsy and who want to have more knowledge in clinical and neurophysiological diagnosis. Our epileptologists doctors broadcast from our facilities at the Ruber Internacional Hospital in Madrid.
Video EEG monitoring
The approach of these courses, as in past editions, is practical. The number of participants should be reduced, despite the interest of the specialists, but in order to develop it in a dynamic and participative way, it is necessary to limit the number of participants.
Through case studies showing the technical aspects of electroencephalography, semiology and EEG of focal and generalized epilepsies, diagnosis of status epilepticus and conditions that may influence it, what it consists of and how to perform a pre-surgical evaluation, stereo-electroencephalography and results of surgery.
This year the talks have been sent to the participants in advance, so we have been able to ensure that they could listen to them, and through a questionnaire they could answer a series of questions related to the topics covered.
During these two days, two virtual sessions were held. A first joint session, in which students have had the opportunity to ask questions to the speakers. In the second session, real clinical cases are reviewed, dividing the groups into a reduced number of participants per presenter.
We have had a platform that allows sharing the screen of the EEG video equipment and MRI images, offering the possibility of interactive participation by the listeners both in the review of cases and in the process of diagnosis and routine clinical practice. In this way in each case all possible diagnostic and therapeutic approaches that may be open are reviewed.
These sessions are given by neurologists, all of them specialized in epilepsy, who present cases in which they have been involved.
The purpose of the course is to provide participants with a better understanding of the applications and limitations of both video EEG monitoring and brain imaging, the different types of epilepsy that exist and the best therapeutic and/or surgical alternatives.
The broadcasting of the course will take place from our facilities at the Ruber International Hospital, the first day will be recorded and retransmitted from the Hospital Conference Room, and the second day from our Video EEG Unit, where we have access to the Video EEG equipment and the recordings made there. On previous occasions the participants attended in person but this new online format adapted to the current circumstances has allowed us to continue offering these courses.
These conferences are organized by the Epilepsy Program Team, led by Dr. Antonio Gil-Nagel, and formed by our neurologists specializing in epilepsy, Dr. Irene García-MoralesDr. Ángel Aledo, Dr. Rafael Toledano, Dr. Beatriz Parejo and the Dr. Carla Anciones.
